Laser Hair Removal with Libby Stocks, Esthetician

What are the benefits of having Laser Hair Removal (as opposed to waxing, shaving, etc)?

The results are long term and you don't need to let your hair grow out before treatments. The laser works best on dark hair, and does not harm the surrounding skin

Is there anything I should do to prepare for this procedure?

Six weeks before your treatment you will need to stop all waxing, plucking, and electrolysis. This is because the laser targets the hair follicles which are temporarily removed by waxing and plucking. You must also avoid sun exposure (no tanning!) at least 6 weeks before and after treatment. The laser responds to color, and, if your skin is tan, there is a higher risk of injury to the skin.

What should I expect from this procedure?

For a few days after your treatment, the treated area may feel sunburned. Cool compresses and aloe can be used to soothe if that should happen to you. Over the next month, the treated hair will fall out. Be sure to wear sunscreen! Patients love that after each treatment their hair comes in lighter, thinner and less noticeable. In many cases, hair stops growing for months or years after each treatment!

Dr Loftus' Tip of the Month

Beware of laser centers that promise "permanent" hair removal with laser treatments. In order to claim "permanent," the results need only last TWO months! We find that many of our patients enjoy hair-free results for months or years, but at some point, hair usually returns. When it does so, it is lighter and thinner; but it does return. Hence, the term "permanent laser hair removal" is very misleading!

Monthly Tech Tip

Hydrate your skin by drinking lots of water and applying moisturizer daily . SkinMedica's product Hydrate offers great protection and can be combined with any moisturizer you choose.
